Tamper Seals, from the funky to the functional

Isabella White  | 28/11/2022

Last month we talked about a classic topic, metallics and foils, this week we’re onto a less talked about one, tamper seals. A small thing that's often treated as an afterthought when they should be integrated into the design. Tamper seals are used to alert customers to possible safety concerns before purchasing or using goods. They’re a functional element, but we think they can be fun too.

A hazelnut spread you'll want to lick clean - Ghia's Ghianduda

There’s a lot to love about Ghia's delightful chocolate hazelnut spread, Ghianduja. From their funky custom die shape to the pops of red, it's a fantastically playful label with a devilish face licking it sealed. The seal is still functional, likely snapping away when its twisted open, but it adds a playful pop to tie the product design together.

Sunny side up on these sweet honey labels - Sola Bee

Tamper seals are a necessity for certain products, but they're often not a much a part of the core design. That’s why we love the Tamper seals from Sola Bee, a sustainably harvested pure raw honey with a tamper seal that’s as much a part of its branding as its honey label

With a gingham background, colour coded to match each different flavour, Sola Bee found an ingenious way to create an identity through necessity. Most brands order custom dies for their tamper seals as not all bottles are shaped the same, so why not order one with a perforation like Sola Bee to make it easy to open when they’re ready!

Your honey order won't be a one time thing with - Bee Seasonal

Our next tamper seal comes from Bee Seasonal, designed by Miller with clean, informative honey packaging, and a tamper seal that tells its story. These labels are a more standard shape than others we’ve mentioned today, featuring a two tone design that tells us in little more detail about about the product inside.

Bee Seasonal labels feature an iconic calendar design to tell the story of when the honey inside was harvested, as well as a map with a key showing where it came from. It’s a delightfully simple design which works to personalise each product without plopping a block of text on every label. Overall we love the way it tells a story through its functional seal, while also looking great.

A bark-code with a twist - Bunches & Bunches

Our final tamper seal isn’t quite the same as our first listings, but it’s a seal nonetheless and just as worthy of mentioning. Bunches & Bunches dog biscuits come in a letterpress printed paper bag, with a hand stamped label overtop to seal them closed.  We love this handmade finish which ties in perfectly with the bag the biscuits come in, and it shows an interesting placement of a tamper seal when we’re often used to those on pharmaceutical labels, cosmetic labels, or food labels

Bunches & Bunches hand stamped these as they only needed small quantities, but they could be printed with a lot more ease and a lot more precision. Rentons Labels has a minimum order quantity of only 100, allowing requests like these to be a breeze. Something like this can be a great addition to your packaging, allowing a personalised touch you can apply yourself.

Special Mention - Deko

Special mentions as well go to Deko, a brand we featured on our last post with a tamper seal as funky as its spirit label. What we really love about these are the seals that show the product is fresh, and create a funky bottle neck label all in one!
